Special Report: Overcoming The Enemy of Our Souls

Basis: Revelation 12:7-12Overcoming The Enemy of Our Souls I don't think it would be hard to make the case today that the devil is alive and well on planet earth. All that we have to do is look at our headlines and we have factual testimony that bad things are happening around us today. Therefore, I won't take a lot of time in this report to attempt to prove the obvious. What we do want to focus on however is what our title suggests, overcoming the enemy of our soul. I've been a believer in Yeshua (Jesus Christ) since 1975. I heard countless sermons on the subject. I've heard sermons that encourage us to live victoriously. Stand up and fight the devil. Resist him through prayer, resist him through the word of God. All of these are good and scriptural, but I wanted to attempt to provide a clear biblical path and plan for overcoming the Devil and evil in our lives. Think of this report as a practical nuts and bolts approach to overcoming Satan. First, let's examine who the devil is. This is not an exhaustive list, but it will be useful for this report. exhaustive study on this go here. Knowing your enemy will help you to stand against him: 1. Satan is prideful and the enemy of God: They all shall speak and say to you: 'Have you also become as weak as we? Have you become like us? Your pomp is brought down to Sheol, And the sound of your stringed instruments; The maggot is spread under you, And worms cover you.' "How you are fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! How you are cut down to the ground, You who weakened the nations! For you have said in your heart: 'I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God; I will also sit on the mount of the congregation On the farthest sides of the north; I will ascend above the heights of the clouds, I will be like the Most High.' Yet you shall be brought down to Sheol, To the lowest depths of the Pit. "Those who see you will gaze at you, And consider you, saying: 'Is this the man who made the earth tremble, Who shook kingdoms, Who made the world as a wilderness And destroyed its cities, Who did not open the house of his prisoners?' Is 14:10-17 2. Satan took a third of the Angels with him to earth: And another sign appeared in heaven: behold, a great, fiery red dragon having seven heads and ten horns, and seven diadems on his heads. His tail drew a third of the stars of heaven and threw them to the earth. Revelation 12:3-4 3. Satan is a murderer and the father of lies: He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it. John 8:44 4. Satan is an opportunist: Then he brought Him to Jerusalem, set Him on the pinnacle of the temple, and said to Him, "If You are the Son of God, throw Yourself down from here. For it is written: 'He shall give His angels charge over you, To keep you,' "and, 'In their hands they shall bear you up, Lest you dash your foot against a stone.' " And Jesus answered and said to him, "It has been said, 'You shall not tempt the Lord your God.' " Now when the devil had ended every temptation, he departed from Him until an opportune time. Luke 4:9-13 5. Satan is the “accuser” of those who believe: Then I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, "Now salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of His Christ have come, for the accuser of our brethren, who accused them before our God day and night, has been cast down. Revelation 12:10 6. Satan’s final outcome: The devil, who deceived them, was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone where the beast and the false prophet are. And they will be tormented day and night forever and ever. Revelation 20:10 Now that we have a good idea of who our enemy is let’s examine how we can overcome him. I would like to say here, God has a way of making things really simple for us to grasp and understand. He has given us the answer in Revelation 12:11 . Let’s take a look at this right now: How to Overcome Our Enemy… Revelation 12:11: And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death. We see here three ways in which the dragon (Satan) was overcome and how we can overcome him as well. First, is by the blood of the lamb. It was at the cross that Satan was defeated. You and I can claim the victory that Yeshua (Jesus) provided for us by His great sacrifice He made on the cross for you and for me. All we have to do is by faith claim that victory and stand firm in what Yeshua did for us! Second, it was through the word of their testimony. My testimony is that I have made Yeshua (Jesus) my Lord. I am submitting to Him and obeying Him, and that keeps Satan from controlling my life. Third, they did not love their lives to the death. I am not living for myself. I would rather die for Yeshua than live without Him. All believers must love God more than their own lives. See Philippians 1:21; Paul wanted to go to be with the Lord, but was torn between staying here to help the believer’s and leaving to be with Christ. Also see Matthew 10:37-39. My friends, this is how one overcomes the enemy of our souls, by implementing in our lives these three standards. The third standard will probably be the most challenging, but if we truly believe in all that Yeshua did for us, then giving Him our very lives, entrusting our life to Him is the only thing that makes sense!
